At the April 2023 meeting, Session approved the recommendation of the Mission Committee for Bower Hill Community Church to join the Matthew 25 Initiative of the PCUSA, with our focus on dismantling systemic poverty. This initiative challenges us to be a more relevant presence in our community and world by taking seriously the lessons from the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats in Matthew chapter 25, verses 31 through 46. We are joining over 1100 churches, 82 Presbyteries (including Pittsburgh Presbytery), 11 Synods and 60 other groups in this commitment. In the next few months, the Mission Committee will be developing a project for us to focus on helping to alleviate poverty.
