Children and Youth – November 2024

Update from the Director of Education Ministries -- Amy Grella - 412-801-3723 Last Call for the Crestfield Youth Winter Retreat December 6-8, 2024

Youth in grades 6-12 are invited for a weekend at Crestfield, meeting with other area churches for our annual fall Retreat on December 6-8. This retreat has separate tracks for middle and high schoolers, so we get the benefit of having a large group AND customized age-relevant experiences. This is a fun, faith-filled event that you don’t want to miss! Click here to see the highlight video from last year’s retreat. Click here to add your name and see who else is going. Registration closes in mid-November.

Annual Child Safety Refresher Training – Sunday, November 24

The PA state child safety laws require us to provide refresher training on our child safety policy annually. A training session will be held on Sunday, November 24, after worship in room 101. If you cannot attend this one, don't worry! Other sessions and an

on-line option will be scheduled later.

Deck the Halls - Sunday, December 1

Many hands make light work! Please join us immediately following coffee hour on Sunday, December 1, to help prepare the church for Advent and Christmas. There will be no second hour classes that day so everyone can help. Childcare will be available

in room 110.

New Service Opportunities for Kids and Families

Kids learn Jesus is real through mission and helping others and discovering how they can use their gifts. Each week, youth may volunteer to serve as acolytes or to share a Bible story with our youngest kids. Here are additional mission options, some for the

entire family. Please prayerfully encourage your youth to serve in one of these capacities.

  • November 23, 8:30am – noon: Food Packing Event

We will partner with Amen to Action to package meals for distribution through the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank. Bower Hill has registered a team of people for a food packing event at Christ UMC (by South Hills Village mall) the morning of Saturday,

November 23. This opportunity is open to youth and adults. Please register here to join this team.

  • December 29 – January 3: Possible Mission Trip to Western North Carolina for Disaster Relief

We are partnering with Praying Pelican Missions to take a small team of older youth (high school and up) and adults on a mission trip during winter break to assist with recovery efforts in Western North Carolina. Please reach out to Amy if you are interested in learning more.

Children’s Christmas Pageant

Bower Hill is excited to prepare for a Children's Christmas Pageant this year. The pageant will be performed during a special Christmas Eve service which will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 24. Kids will use the time in Sunday School during the

weeks leading up to it to prepare. Older youth will be engaged to work on props. If you would like to help lead this effort, please reach out to Amy at amy.grella@bowerhillchurch.org.

Alternative Sunday Evening Worship Family & Youth Group Activities

As a parent with school-aged kids, getting enough sleep for the entire family is sometimes hard, and having one day to sleep in can now fall on (some) Sundays!

It’s not too late to check out ToGather Sunday evening events for the entire family to worship, meet and share a meal together, all in under two hours. Come to one, two, or all three of the evening's activities. The remaining scheduled dates are November 3 and

November 17, from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Future dates will be scheduled in January.
