Updates on the use of Flea Market funds!
Over the years, flea market funds have been used for many projects, big and small. They’ve been used for new lighting in Fellowship Hall, the hearing assist equipment for the Sanctuary, carpeting in various rooms, a new freezer in the kitchen, assistance to four of our youth to go to Malawi, as well as towards other youth group trips and supplies.
It’s been a while since we’ve used any funds, but the build-up in funds made it real easy when the Building and Grounds committee identified a major project that needed some additional funding - new carpeting in the Sanctuary. Thanks to the work of Alan Hohlfelder and the Finance Committee, much of the funding for the carpeting came from unused memorial funds. After gaining permission from the families of some of the
people who had balances in their memorial funds, there was still a substantial amount of money needed to cover the cost of the carpeting. In June, Session approved using flea market funds to cover the balance.
In addition to paying for the new carpeting in the Sanctuary, flea market funds were also used to buy a new soundboard! The new soundboard has fun, high-tech features that improve not only the sound in the Sanctuary, but also the sound on the YouTube
livestreams. And it’s got lots of pretty lights!
I (Theresa) often get preachy about how the flea market is about more than the money we make; it’s about giving our customers the opportunity to buy items they may not be able to buy brand new and it’s about finding new homes for items that otherwise would likely end up in a landfill.
That said, it’s always the most fun when we can see the physical manifestation of everyone’s work on the flea market when funds are used for much needed items like the new carpeting in the Sanctuary and the new soundboard.
Thank you very much, on behalf of the flea market committee, for your continued support. The next sale is coming up in November and with the amount of donations coming in, we wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being the most successful one yet!
