Get Outdoors - Hays Woods (Northern Section) - March 1, 2025

On March 1, 2025, 3 members of Bower Hill hiked in Hays Woods. After parking, we decided to hike the northern section toward the eagles nest. We started out hiking on a dirt road. First, we rewarded with an overlook toward Pittsburgh. Between the snow and foggy conditions, we could barely see the cathedral of learning. At the next overlook, there was a little clearer view of Hazelwood and the Monongahela river. After going down a hill and backup the next hill, we came to signs indicating the location of the eagles nest. We looked and looked but could not see the nest. We found out later that the eagles had moved the nest to another location. We continued to where the trail was ready to descend down to river level. Given the steepness of the descent and not wanting to have to hike back up, we turned around and hiked back to the car. During the hike back, the snow increased and was starting to lay on the ground. It was another great day getting outdoors.
