On November 4, 2023, a group of 5 members of Bower Hill Community Church hiked the Montour trail starting at Panhandle Trail / Montour Trail Connector. The temperature was brisk but perfect for hiking. We hiked up the connector trail, took a left on the Montour trail and headed toward Fort Cherry. Soon, we came to the McDonald Viaduct that spans the valley. We could look down and see where we parked alongside the connector trail. A little further down the trestle, we came to the old super structure. From here we could get a good view of the Panhandle trail with one part going to McDonald and the other toward Midway. As we exited the viaduct, we started up a long gentle hill. Soon we passed under I-576, with it’s impressive concrete piers supporting it over the valley. At the top of the hill, we reached Primrose Road, turned around and retraced our steps back to the car.
