On October 5, 2024, 2 members of Bower Hill hiked on the North Country Trail. We started near the Ohio Border. It was a perfect day weather wise. From the parking lot you take a ½ mile access trail to get to the main trail. The first part of the trail was mainly climbing to get to the top of the ridge. On the way up, we passed by what may have been the foundation of a barn. Halfway up we passed by a softball size white mushroom that resembled the moon, complete with craters. At the top, we came to a large grassy area. The trail goes through the grassy area then follows a pipeline swatch for about a mile. After the trail entered back into the woods, where we saw a tree that was obviously a favorite of woodpeckers. We hiked to the 2 mile marker which is where we ended last month’s hike. At this spot, there was evidence of storm damage with lots of downed trees. We returned by same trail enjoying the fact that most of the hiking was downhill. |
