The purchase of our wonderful new soundboard for the sanctuary presented a new problem. Because the new sound board is taller than the old one the roll top desk cover could not be closed. Temporarily, we used a piece of cloth to protect it from dust.
That’s when it was decided to give church member, Glenn Williams, a call. Glenn is talented in woodworking and has previously done work for the church, including the branch that shows the completed projects following the Capital Campaign several years ago. After thinking about the many options Glenn suggested, we decided that a folding cover attached to the top of the soundboard was the best choice.
Glenn designed a four-section cover with three hinges. When closed three of the sections lay flat on the top of the sound board and the fourth section covers the front. When opened the front three pieces fold to form a triangle and the front of the triangle can be used to hold the script the soundboard operator uses for the worship service. Ingenious!!!
The cover is solid as a rock and stained to match the soundboard. Glenn spent many hours building it and we can’t thank him enough for his work. Next time you are in the sanctuary, take a walk back to the soundboard and check it out.
